I am a Foodie who prefers to eat healthy

My journey started 15 years ago when my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I always believed there was a way we could reverse his condition, which is something I am still in pursuit of. Along this journey, we have decreased some of his symptoms by introducing a healthier lifestyle mainly through food and exercise. This lifestyle is something I think is important to share with others who are struggling with some of the same issues.

One way my father and I always connected was through good food. I remember the hoagie spot we would get the best hoagies from, the cheesesteak spot we would get mouth-watering cheesesteaks from, the restaurants he would take me to get sirloin, and even filet mignon on special occasions.

We had a close family friend who would cook the best meals for us. Her home was like Big Momma’s house, where she would spoil us with dishes like potato salad, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, and greens to name a few.

So after a life of sharing great memories while eating delicious foods, it was hard to have to give up what we loved to do. Not only for my dad but also for myself. I started noticing some of my own health issues like acid reflux, fatigue, constant bloating, heart palpitations, and stinging in my legs and feet. The problem was that the medication our doctors prescribed was just a band-aid and we wanted to get to the root of the problem, so we chose a different route.

My question was how do we enjoy the foods we’re used to eating while also making healthier choices? This is the question I ask whenever a commercial comes on with a mouth-watering meal I know will only wreak havoc on my body. Instead of denying myself and my family the food we love dearly I try to find healthier ways, use healthier ingredients, and buy healthier products to enjoy the meals we eat. Now I’m not a saint, at times I will treat myself, but this is a journey and I know if I keep focused on the goal I’ll be in a much better place than where I started.

This blog will focus on health tips that my family and I have experienced or researched in our journey to better health. It will also introduce what I call Non-Recipes. I don’t really consider myself a recipe creator, but I have tons of meal ideas in my mind. I will share the easiest ways to make these meals while providing healthier ingredients to use so you won’t feel bad about eating them. So if you’re trying to live a long healthy life while eating delicious and appetizing meals stick with me while I share my journey to better health.

Also please follow me on social media to stay up on some of the meals and recipes I try out throughout the week.
